Sharp LC-46D64U LCD TV

Story link: Sharp LC-46D64U LCD TV by Franz Bicar

Sharp television sets has made its mark in the LCD market. The Sharp LC-46D64U is no exception. Some reviews, though, has labeled the LC-46D64U as only fair. But, we can be a little bit more lenient towards it and call it good.

Taking a closer look at this set - and using it right out of the box - you cannot appreciate what it has to offer. Washed-out, blotchy and grainy pictures will probably invade your eyes at the start. Some of you might even call it dreadful. However, it takes a little bit of patience, and some setting tweaks, for you to be able to fully appreciate what the LC-46D64U has to offer.

Some reviews placed this set at the last in 46- and 47-inch HDTV rankings, and you can’t ask them why.

But let’s focus on what the LC-46D64U do have. The LC-46D64U has some nice touches, such as Sharp’s Aquos Link Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) support that allows it to control and be controlled by other Sharp devices. There is also an opion called Optical Picture Control that automatically adjusts the TV’s brightness to match the room’s ambient light level. Another feature worth mentioning that would definitely appeal to those energy conscious consumers is its ability to shut itself off after 15 minutes of receiving no signal or after three hours of detecting no user interaction - a power-saving feature that might help prevent image retention too.

The set’s audio quality isn’t all that bad either. You can hear a clean sound without noise or distortion. The LC-46D64U, however, lacks the forcefulness of a truly excellent TV sound system. The set’s Audio Only option lets you arrange to use the TV’s sound without switching on its LCD, in case you want to use your DVD player to listen to CDs

The Sharp is also reasonably easy to use, but not exceptionally so. The text displayed in the on-screen menus is small but readable, and the menus themselves looked good.

Sharp’s LC-46D64U has got some cool features that would probably appeal to users. However, in choosing a TV, one feature must rise above all, and that is its image quality.
