Demand soaring for small LCD TVs

According to the chief executive of LG Display Co Ltd, Kwon Young-soo, demand is accelerating for 26-inch or smaller LCD sets.
More and more consumers are switching from bulky CRTs to flat-screens, and the smaller sets are proving popular with consumers who don’t want to take up too much space in their living room, or who are purchasing a second set for a bedroom or kitchen.
Speaking at a media event after LG released its quarterly resultls, Kwon Young-soo said that demand for small-sized TVs and cheaper notebook computers was not expected.
This unanticipated demand may ease a predicted over-supply of LCD panels in 2009, when several new LCD facilities will start production.
LG Display will start mass production from a new “eighth-generation production line” early in 2009.
