Belgacom TV launches HD service
IPTV operator, Belgacom TV, is about to launch a new HD service in Belgium, with seven channels and a video-on-demand library packed with HD titles from Warner Bros, Disney and others.

The service, which will cost €9.95 a month, includes the Discovery HD, Disney Cinemagic HD, Exqi, HD1, History HD, Melody Zen and Luxe TV HD channels.

Around 60% of households in Belgium will be able to access the new service, by either purchasing a dedicated HD set top box for €199 or renting one for €6.00 a month.

The set top boxes are being provided by Nokia Networks, and existing customers will be charged a €50 connection fee.

Belgacom plans to extend the service further, with additional channels and coverage of sporting events such as the Olympics.

Belgacom’s network was upgraded by Alcatel-Lucent to a fast ‘fibre-to-the-node’ VDSL2 network, so that the operator could offer triple play and HDTV services.
