Sony targets 50% Blu-ray market share

Sony is increasing its focus on Blu-ray products and hopes to expand its share of the Blu-ray market from 20% to 50% by the end of 2008, according to its president and Electronics CEO Ryoji Chubachi.
Speaking at a recent press conference in Taipei, Chubachi outlined the company’s plans to add more Blu-ray products to its range, including a LCD HDTV with integrated Blu-ray recorder.
This would be the first-ever TV to include a built-in Blu-ray player.
Sony will continue to push sales of its PlayStation 3 games consoles, but will introduce more Blu-ray enabled IT devices.
No details are yet available on release dates or pricing for the HDTV/Blu-ray combo devices.
Pioneer has also announced similar plans, to focus on developing Blu-ray players, and combined Blu-ray devices.
