ViewSonic VX2435 24″ LCD Monitor

Story link: ViewSonic VX2435 24″ LCD Monitor by Franz Bicar

viewsonic-vx2435.jpgThe VX2435 24-inch LCD Monitor is another offering from ViewSonic adding to the number of High-Definition Television and Computer Monitor hybrid in the market. The set can handle computer and HDTV signals. This would mean it can accommodate 16 x 10, WUXGA, 1920 x 1200 for computers and 16 x 9, 1080p for television.

Before continuing, readers might like to take note that this is not purely a television. As mentioned, this is a hybrid between a TV and a computer monitor. It doesn’t have a built-in TV tuner nor does it have NTSC or ATSC. Watching broadcast television would require users to have a portable TV tuner or a cable or satellite set top box.

As an added feature, the VX2435 comes in with a built-in integrated speaker and a television base if you choose not to wall-mount the set. It weighs a total of 22-pounds and is very maneuverable. The VX2435’s has a 24″ diagonal screen size, aspect ratio of 16 x 10, and native resolution of 1920 x 1200.

This TV set’s controls are located snuggly at the front in the middle just below the screen. Looking right at it, you just might miss it if you won’t look closely as its color matches its background really well.

As for its connectivity options, this TV has it all. Its connection panel is located at the back, divided on its two sides. On the left side are the HDMI, VGA and Component (with RCA stereo audio) inputs while on the right side, you can see the S-Video, RCA stereo audio, Composite, and mini jack audio inputs respectively. When all the cables are connected they can be concealed with black covers that snap into the back of the monitor.

Having it all might though not be the best description for this set. A glaring absence is noticed as the DVI-D input is missing. However, the manufacturers did include a DVI-D to HDMI cable if you wish to make a direct DVI-D connection from your computer’s video card to the VX2435.

As it is run through its paces, the TV is quite good and is not that disappointing. First, you have to consider that this is a hybrid, a TV and a monitor. But whatever that may be, as a user, we will always look at the picture quality of the set.

As a computer monitor, the displays and pictures look very good. However, when 720 x 480 image is upscaled to 1920 x 1080, the picture is understandably a little soft. If you really want sharp, then reduce the size of the playback window. At half screen width, the image becomes very crisp.

On the other hand, as a television, fed with an 1080p signal, the television’s display look brilliant and excellent.

Finally, the convenience of the VX2435’s integrated speakers is offset by the difficulty of controlling the volume. Though the sound that emanates from those tiny speakers can sometimes pleasantly surprise you, the bass response is anemic.

In conclusion, the 24-inch ViewSonic VX2435 hybrid can act and does a good job as a computer monitor and at the same time has 1080p video capabilities that is good as a home theater system.
