Philips to demo 52-inch Multi-Touch LCD

LG Philips is planning to reveal a 52-inch multi-touch LCD at the Consumer Electronics Show which opens in Las Vegas on 7 January. The model is the largest multi-touch LCD in the world.
Multi-touch screens represent an advance on conventional touchpanels which use capacitive resistance to measure touch and only allow input from one point on the screen.
Multi-touch screens, on the other hand, use small infrared sensors, which allow input from more than one point.
Input can be either from fingers or other instruments, and multi-touch technology is also able to recognise gestures such as the movement of fingers.
The technology is expected to allow users to zoom in on images, such as maps, and manipulate images with two hands.
LG Philips’ 52-inch multi-touch LCD also features full HD resolution (1,920 pixels by 1,080 pixels).
The company will demonstrate several other innovations at CES, including an 84-inch multi-touch display comprising four 42-inch panels joined together.
It will also unveil a 47-inch triple-view screen, which is designed for advertising applications. The screen has a filter over the front, sending light from pixels in one of three different directions.
It displays three images simultaneously, to allow it to be seen clearly by people at different viewing angles.
LG Philips’ will also unveil a 47-inch, double-sided advertising screen. The 2.8 inch thick display comprises a single backlight between two LCD panels and a 42-inch transreflective panel which is designed to enhance daytime readability.
