A high-definition version of Channel 4 has been launched on Sky HD.

Channel 4 HD will carry the same programmes as the standard channel, but will show high-definition versions of programmes whenever possible.

The channel will be available to Sky HD subscribers at no extra cost.

Sky HD, which was launched in May 2006, is Sky’s fastest growing additional TV product ever, with over 292,000 customers registered in the first year.

For those without a Sky subscription, Channel 4 is seeking volunteers who own HD-ready TVs and live in London, to participate in a Freeview HD trial.

Channel 4 HD could also be available via Virgin Media following a recent agreement between Virgin Media and Channel 4.

The deal allows Virgin Media to provide Channel 4 HD programming via its TV-on-demand service.

Under the terms of the agreement, Virgin Media also has the option of carrying Channel 4 HD in the future.
