Sony expands European LCD TV plants

Sony has announced plans to expand HDTV manufacturing in Europe, in order to cope with soaring demand for flat panel high definition screens.
The company has opened an LCD TV manufacturing Nitra, Slovakia. The factory is fully equipped with the latest technology to produce large size, high-end BRAVIA LCD TVs.
The factory has started full scale production, and will produce three million LCD TVs every year, and employ a 3,000-strong workforce by 2008. The new factory will complement the company’s Barcelona LDC TV factory.
TV production an the company’s existing plant in Trnava will be relocated to Nitra, while the Trnava facility will produce tuners for the BRAVIA LCD TVs, and also provide technical support for Sony’s PlayStation products.
