Panasonic TX-32LXD70 LCD HDTV

Story link: Panasonic TX-32LXD70 LCD HDTV by Franz Bicar

panasonic-tx-32lxd70-1.jpgThe Panasonic TX-32LXD70 is a 32-inch LCD HDTV with advanced 100Hz Motion Picture Pro technology which doubles the refresh rate and response time to smooth the jerky images during high motion scenes and reduce motion blur. On this stylish thin silver border TV, Panasonic have broken with tradition and removed most traces of their silver livery on the TX32LXD70.

The 1,366 x 768 pixels resolution offers 720p and 1080i HD formats at a contrast ratio of 8,500:1, and looks great with a black frame surrounded by a thin silver edge, this makes a nice change from the black gloss finish of the current HDTVs.

V-Real is the collective name for Panasonic’s picture processing technologies, and a major feature of the TX32LXD70 is that it now sports V-Real II the latest incarnation of this set of technologies.

Panasonic make a distinction between the ‘V-real 2 Processor’ part of the technology and ‘V-real 2 Driver’ The ‘Driver’ side of the equation promises amongst other things enhanced fast motion handling capabilities, with the TX32LXD70 now rated at 100hz refresh rate putting it on par with the best CRT screens.

The ‘Processor’ has been designed to retain the quality of incoming video with a ‘Digital Processing Chip’ and to present the pictures in an optimum fashion with the ‘Digital Re-mastering Processor’.

As far as connectivity is concerned, this TV is fairly equipped with the standard 2 HDMI and 2 Scart connections and the normal s-video and component inputs.

Another feature of the TX32LXD70, Viera Link, uses high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) connections to automatically switch between different devices, put them in standby and take control of them with full menu access using a single remote.

The TX32LXD70 is a fairly adequate screen. With high definition sources, colors are represented as rich as ever on a 32-inch LCD. Its sharpness and vibrancy is one of the best for any TV out there in the market. Colors are deeper and more natural than anything the other major manufacturers have to offer.

However, a disappointing aspect for this HDTV is its Standard Definition capabilities. Though it is comparable to other LCD’s, you can still see a bit of blurriness, video noise or motion smearing once you come too close to the screen.

The improved 100hz refresh rate looks like it has a big impact on this screen. Fast panning, especially the type seen on detailed action movies or sports coverage is remarkably free of motion blur or smearing. Inconsistencies are still visible, with a tendency for loss of focus the most notable, but the TX32LXD70 is nevertheless a leap forward for LCD motion handling capabilities.

But in the real world where we all live and, more importantly, shop, the simple facts of the matter are that the Panasonic 32LXD70 is not only Panasonic’s finest LCD TV yet, but one of the finest yet to appear from anyone. The TX-32LXD70 is not revolutionary, but it is enough of a leap forward to make it the current leader of the pack.
