Amimon distributes wireless HDTV chipset

Chip manufacturer Amimon has started shipping its first chipset, based on its Wireless High-Definition Interface (WHDI) standard.

The chipset, which will be used inside wireless HDTVs, allows high definition, uncompressed video to be broadcast around a home from a media device such as computer to a media display such as a TV or monitor, without the need for wires.

The chip can deliver 1080p content at datarates of up to 3Gbps through a 40MHz channel in the 5GHz unlicensed band and can stream HD content at 1.5Gbps through a 20MHz channel. The technology can even penetrate dividing walls.

According to Amimon, the technology is suitable for use in the home. It has a latency of less than 1ms and a range of up to 30 meters.

The chipset will be included in electronic devices by the end of 2007.

Amimon is headquartered in Herzlia, Israel, and also has offices in Santa Clara, California and Tokyo, Japan.
