Tartan Video releases titles on Blu-ray

Independent video publisher Tartan has placed itself firmly in the Blu-ray camp with the release of three titles in the format.

Paul Verhoeven’s World War II epic ‘Black Book’ will be released by Tartan on 27 August, while cult thriller ‘Old Boy’ and Ingmar Bergman’s The Seventh Seal will both be released on 24 September. All three releases are worldwide Blu-ray premieres.

In a press release announcing the new titles, Tartan Video’s owner, Hamish McAlpine says that deciding to adopt Blu-ray was a “no-brainer” as the format is superior to HD-DVD.

According to McAlpine the decision by seven out of eight studios to back Blu-ray means that the format war is over before it has really begun.

Tartan plans to package a DVD edition of each film with the Blu-ray versions, to cater for consumers who don’t have Blu-ray technology.

All three titles will cost £29.99.
