Panasonic TH-50PH9UKPlasma panels had a considerable drop on its prices and the Panasonic TH-50PH9UK is of of these models that also delivers a superior picture performance. The set is in the $3000 - $4000 range and will give just about any plasma set with the same size, features and price range, a very stiff competition in terms of quality and performance.

The TH-50PH9UK’s design is very simple and basic. It is fully customizable, which allows everybody to mix-and-match among different choices of peripherals available in the market. The set does not come with a built-in speaker, but it does have speaker and amplifier outputs that lets you hook it up with any audio systems that suits your needs.

The connectivity options for the TH-50PH9UK is slightly limited, but this can be remedied by adding input cards that allows anyone to customize the panel’s inputs according to your system’s requirements. This includes both DVI and HDMI digital input cards. Furthermore, it has one S-Video and one composite video input coupled with a VGA input for connecting it to you PC or laptop. The set measures approximately 47.6 inches wide by 28.5 inches high by 3.7 inches deep, and weighs a hair under 95 lbs.

The Panasonic TH-50PH9UK is an industrial product specifically built as a monitor. So it doesn’t have a built-in TV tuner and would require you to use a cable or satellite set-top box for tuning capabilities; also to make the picture-in-picture feature to work.

Panasonic TH-50PH9UK 50-inch Plasma HDTVThe Panasonic TH-50PH9UK performed very well with renderings of blacks and whites. This enables the TH-50PH9UK to achieve good contrast ratios which happens to be the most important aspect of a picture for the human eye’s ability to detect. Color, on the other hand, is a bit more complicated for the Panasonic TH-50PH9UK. The primary color accuracy of the set deviates slightly from the correct renderings. A number of manufacturers now include Color Management Systems on their HDTV sets as this would solve the problem on the accuracy of color renderings. Some of you may not notice any of these at first glance, but when displaying things that we are all familiar of, like grasses, leaves, and sky, it all becomes too evident.

With a resolution of 1,366×768 (native), the TH-50PH9UK has more than enough pixels to generate a very detailed display for 720p sources and all sources may it be standard TV, DVD, HDTV, or computers. Furthermore, sporting events in HD on the Panasonic are particularly exciting and engaging. It lets the playing environment virtually come out of the screen and gives audience the impression of watching the game live.

Panasonic did a very good job with the TH-50PH9UK. This plasma set will definitely complete your home entertainment system. Everything you could possibly want in a monitor while leaving the unnecessary ones out.
