Sanyo 42LM4WPN, Waterproof HDTV

A weatherproof TV?! Wow! I would never have believed that. Not until I knew of the Sanyo 42LM4WPN 42″ LCD TV. It is a certified IP56 TV. That means, it can withstand at least 65 gallons of water per minute. Simply put, this TV is waterproof. I’ve heard of waterproof watches, waterproof cameras, heck, even underwater pens, but a waterproof TV? What will they think of next? It’s not as if I’m going to leave my TV outside in the rain.

The Sanyo 42LM4WPN 42″ LCD TV is assured of staying high and dry with its aluminum frame and tamper-resistant glass. But aside from the wonder you get from getting a waterproof TV, the 42LM4WPN also delivers one of the best pictures from a 720p TV. Its native resolution is 1366 X 768 with top-notched color renditions. One of the best gauges for testing a TV’s picture quality is the rendition of varied skin tones. The Sanyo 42LM4WPN definitely passed this with flying colors.

But of course, with a price tag of $8500, you deserve only the best. This unit is aimed more for commercial applications. Sanyo revealed that this unit comes in two configurations. In Europe, it comes with a TV tuner, but in the US, no tuner is provided setting it up as a huge and high-priced monitor. If you want to watch TV, then you’re gonna have to subscribe to a cable or satellite service to be able to do so.

This 42-inch wonder also has another drawback. It does not have integrated speakers. If you need sound, which I’m sure you will if you’re watching a movie, then an external audio system is required. Not really a good deal, but as mentioned, this TV is not really for casual viewers.

With its brushed aluminum enclosure, this Sanyo is not your typical looking black bezeled HDTV, which you will find very refreshing. If you take a look around the metal edge, you’ll discover that familiar black frame surrounding the LCD inside. This is after all, a TV ensconced in a waterproof casing, albeit, a very stylish one. Since this is a monitor with no speakers attached, the design is streamlined with a simple Sanyo logo in the middle of the frame and a blue power light on the right. The control buttons, (waterproof, of course), are pointed down on the bottom right.

The lower panel located at the back of the TV contains all the audio, video and PC connections, but not in the form that most consumers are familiar with. The diverse types of connectors reflect the industrial and international nature of this monitor.

Sanyo’s 42LM4WPN is absolutely perfect, but not for casual viewers. It s perfect for commercial uses like signage and video advertisements. But hey, if you have an extra $8500 that you can spare, why not get it? If you love brilliant colors and absolute perfect picture quality, then this 720p weather resistant monitor is the way to go.
