Sky gains 244,000 new HDTV subscribers

BSkyB gained 244,000 new high-definition TV subscribers in the last quarter, increasing its HDTV subscriber base from 48,000 to 292,000.

Sky’s average revenue per customer increased £12 to £412 a year over the same period.

The company beat analyst’s expectations for the quarter by attracting 90,000 new subscription TV customers, who receive a range of pay TV services - a 17% increase compared with last year.

The company currently has 8.6 million customers and is on track to achieve a target of 10 million customers by the year 2010.

The number of customers leaving Sky fell from 13.7% to 12.1% over the quarter.
