Samsung announces 70″ Full-HD LCD TV

Story link: Samsung announces 70″ Full-HD LCD TV by Jan Harris

Samsung has announced the largest, commercially available high-definition LCD TV in the world.

The TV features the company’s latest image enhancement technologies and has a light-emitting diode (LED) backlight rather than a conventional cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) backlight.

Innovative local dimming technology enables the LED backlight to be turned off in dark image areas, giving a dynamic contrast ratio of 500,000:1.

This feature also provides a 50% reduction in power usage.

The set does not suffer from the flicker and ghosting problems associated with large-screen LCD TV’s. These are eliminated with Samsung’s LED scanning technology.

The TV has a high-gloss, black bezel and titanium chrome trim. Sound is delivered through dual hidden speaker and a rear woofer.

The product will be on sale worldwide in the second half of this year.
