BBC seeks views on HDTV

Story link: BBC seeks views on HDTV by Jan Harris

The BBC Trust, which oversees the BBC, is consulting with viewers and listeners about the BBC’s proposed new high definition television channel.

The BBC launched a year’s HDTV trial in May 2006, but in order for the scheme to be developed further it must be approved by the BBC Trust.

The Trust hopes to determine the public value of a BBC HDTV service and its possible impact on the market.

As the service will involve the use of licence payer’s money, the trust wishes to find out what role licence fee payers and stakeholders feel the BBC should play in the development of high definition television in the UK.

It also wishes to clarify how the BBC’s proposals differ from those of other HD service providers.

Copies of the BBC’s HDTV channel proposal and consultation forms are available on the BBC’s website.
