HDTV Sets For Free

Story link: HDTV Sets For Free by Kathryn Lang

If you are like me, you missed the great HDTV giveaway that occurred recently. When Sony launched PS3, it gave away a free 46-inch HDTV to the first 100 Brits that purchased the new gaming system.

The free HDTV’s are a good sign that the PS3 systems are net selling as well as the company would like. Promotions are used to entice buyers. If the buyers were lining up for the chance to purchase, like they do with Xbox, then the giveaway would not be necessary.

It had to be a nice surprise for the ones that received the free HDTV. I think it would be like being the 1,000,000 customer in the grocery store (like on Laverne and Shirley where they got the free shopping spree). Of course, I would have hated to be customer 101 – although with reports of lack luster sales, you wonder if that customer even existed.

HDTV is supposed to be the ultimate experience for gamers. By providing a free set with a purchase of a PS3, Sony upped the experience for 100 British gamers. The cost of the advertising ploy has not been disclosed, but it is estimated to be over $300,000.

If you are just hearing about the Sony HDTV giveaway, you are like me and you missed out. With all the publicity the gimmick has gotten, it is not likely that Sony will be looking to take this kind of hit again in the near future. Hopefully, this one shot will be enough to boost the sales of the PS3.
