HDTV Being Pushed by MDA in Singapore

Story link: HDTV Being Pushed by MDA in Singapore by Kathryn Lang

HDTV is not high on the list of priorities for the Media Development Authority (MDA) in Singapore. More homes will have to adopt the technology for that to happen. Right now, the MDA estimates that in five years, only half of all the homes in the region will have HDTV – although it does consider that a high rate of increase.

The Media Development Authority in Singapore is looking for ways to decrease the number of years it will take for HDTV to spread. It is organizing competition in the area to try and promote the technology.

The competitions to promote HDTV are designed to get the public involved and increase awareness of the products. A roving roadshow is going around giving contestants an opportunity to be filmed on a HDTV camera in 30 second clips that inform the viewer about HDTV. The clips are then posted onto the competition website where viewers can vote for their favorite performances.

MDA is also looking to celebrities to promote the use of HDTV. It is bringing in Hong Kong stars to increase the public’s awareness of HD.

With the public contests, the use of stars for promotion, and the encouraging of TV productions companies to produce more programs in HDTV, the Media Development Authority is confident that it can have Singapore viewers all seeing a clearer picture in record time.
