HDTV Being Introduced in Hotel Rooms

Story link: HDTV Being Introduced in Hotel Rooms by Kathryn Lang

HDTV is not only a luxury in the home; the new technology is making its way into vacations as well.

Marriott Hotels & Resorts, JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts, and Renaissance Hotels & Resorts will be the first lodging brands to introduce HDTV sets in all of its guest rooms in the United States and in Canada.

The new HDTV’s will be a flat panel, LCD with a digital connectivity panel. This plug-in will offer guests the ability to plug in laptops, camcorders, digital cameras, video games, and so much more. The new sets are also equipped with a 25-watt stereo speaker so that guests can listen to their MP3 players and their iPods.

The introduction of these HDTV’s is raising the bar in the service industry. It will force other lodging companies to step up or to take a hit. Consumers want to be entertained in their rooms as well as on their vacations. They are expecting more value for their buck, and they will go where ever they can find that value.

Putting the HDTV’s in all the rooms is no small investment. Each set can run as much as $1000. Some in the lodging industry have been testing the HDTV in the luxury rooms only. These brands (listed at the beginning of the story) will be the first to give all of their guests the experience that some can’t even get at home.

HDTV is putting a whole new spin on the dream vacation.
